Frequently Asked Questions

Reverse geocoding is the process of converting geographic coordinates (latitude and longitude) into a human-readable address, such as a street name, city, or postal code. It is the opposite of forward geocoding (address to coordinates).

Accuracy depends on the data source (OpenStreetMap) and the location. In urban areas, it can pinpoint an exact building or street. In rural regions, it may return the nearest named place. The more decimal places provided, the more precise the result.

No. This tool uses the free Nominatim API from OpenStreetMap. There is no need to sign up, and no hidden costs. Please use it responsibly and respect the usage limits (max 1 request per second).

Click the icon next to the input fields. Your browser will ask for location permission. Once granted, the latitude and longitude fields are filled automatically using the Geolocation API.

Decimal degrees (e.g., 40.7128, -74.0060) are required. Degrees-minutes-seconds (DMS) or other formats are not supported directly. You can paste numbers from Google Maps or any GPS device.

The results are returned in the local language by default. The OpenStreetMap Nominatim service supports an accept-language header; however, this tool currently requests the default locale to keep things simple.
