Yes! We've carefully compiled popular and traditional names from each culture. All names are real names commonly used in their respective countries. We respect cultural naming conventions — for example, East Asian names place the family name first, while Western names place the given name first. We regularly update our databases to ensure accuracy.

In many East Asian cultures (China, Japan, Korea, Vietnam), the family name traditionally comes first as it emphasizes collective family identity over individual identity. This practice, known as "Eastern name order," is deeply rooted in Confucian values. Our generator automatically applies the correct naming order for each culture — Chinese names show as [Surname] [Given Name], while French names show as [Given Name] [Surname].

Currently, you select one country at a time for focused generation. However, the Random/Surprise Me option picks a random country for each name in your batch, giving you a diverse multicultural mix! For more control, you can run multiple generations with different countries and compile the results.

Absolutely. Everything runs entirely in your browser — no names you generate are ever sent to any server, stored, or tracked. This is a pure client-side JavaScript application. You can generate as many names as you want with complete privacy.

With our extensive database of thousands of first names and surnames across 19 cultures, there are millions of possible unique combinations. For example, with 30 male first names and 25 surnames for one country, that's already 750 unique full names — and we have far more names than that in most categories. You're unlikely to ever see the same combination twice!

We provide a cultural note for each country explaining common naming conventions and traditions. While we don't display individual name meanings in this version (that's coming soon!), many names have well-documented meanings — for example, Japanese "Haruki" means "spring child," and Arabic "Amir" means "prince." We encourage exploring the rich history behind each name you generate.
