Frequently Asked Questions

LUFS (Loudness Units relative to Full Scale) is the standard measurement for perceived loudness, used by streaming platforms like Spotify, YouTube, and Apple Music. It ensures consistent listening levels across tracks, replacing older RMS‑only approaches.

RMS measures the average electrical power, while LUFS uses a psychoacoustic model (K‑weighting filter and gating) that better represents how humans perceive loudness. Two tracks with identical RMS can sound very different in loudness – LUFS captures that difference.

Typical targets: Spotify ≈ −14 LUFS Integrated, YouTube ≈ −13 to −15 LUFS, Apple Music ≈ −16 LUFS. Our meter helps you check if your master will be turned down (or up) by loudness normalization.

No. All analysis runs inside your browser using the Web Audio API. Your files stay private on your device – we never send audio data anywhere.

Our waveform display is a quick overview; it may use linear amplitude scaling. For precise editing, always refer to your DAW. The loudness values, however, are computed following the ITU‑R BS.1770 standard.
