The Capital Cities Quiz is an interactive online geography trivia game that tests your knowledge of world capitals. You are shown a country name and must select the correct capital city from four multiple-choice options. With adjustable difficulty levels, continent filters, and a scoring system with streak bonuses, it's both educational and entertaining for geography enthusiasts of all ages.

Our database includes over 70 countries spanning all six inhabited continents — Europe, Asia, Africa, North America, South America, and Oceania. The question pool covers widely recognized nations as well as lesser-known ones, making it suitable for both beginners and advanced geography buffs. We regularly update the database to ensure accuracy.

Easy — Features well-known countries like France, Japan, Brazil, and the United States. These are capitals most people learn in school.
Medium — Includes countries that are slightly less familiar, such as Poland, Thailand, Kenya, and Peru.
Hard — Challenges you with less commonly known capitals like Naypyidaw (Myanmar), Ljubljana (Slovenia), Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso), and Ngerulmud (Palau).
All Levels — A mixed bag that randomly draws from all difficulty tiers for a comprehensive challenge.

Each correct answer earns 10 base points. Additionally, a streak bonus rewards consecutive correct answers — starting from the second consecutive correct answer, you earn an extra 3 points per streak level. For example, answering 4 questions in a row correctly gives you 10+13+16+19 = 58 points instead of just 40. The streak resets whenever you answer incorrectly or skip a question.

Absolutely! Use the continent chips above the question area to filter by Europe, Asia, Africa, North America, South America, or Oceania. This is perfect for students focusing on a specific region for an exam, or for travelers preparing for a trip. Select "All" to include countries from every continent in your quiz.

The 50/50 hint is a lifeline that removes two incorrect options from the current question, leaving you with a 50% chance of choosing correctly between the remaining two. The number of hints depends on your selected question count: 5 questions = 1 hint, 10 = 2 hints, 15 = 3 hints, 20 = 4 hints. Use them strategically on the toughest questions!

1. Mnemonic devices — Create memorable associations (e.g., "Canberra sounds like 'can berry' — Australia grows berries").
2. Group by region — Study one continent at a time using our continent filter.
3. Use flashcards — Write country on one side, capital on the other.
4. Practice regularly — Come back daily and try to beat your previous score.
5. Learn etymology — Many capital names have fascinating historical meanings that make them easier to remember.

Several countries have more than one capital city. South Africa is the most famous example with three: Pretoria (executive), Cape Town (legislative), and Bloemfontein (judicial). Bolivia has Sucre (constitutional) and La Paz (administrative). Netherlands has Amsterdam (official) and The Hague (government seat). In our quiz, we use the most commonly recognized capital for each country.
