Set your desired number of rows and columns, then click “New Grid”. Use the Letter mode to click a cell and type a letter. Switch to Black mode to add black squares by clicking or dragging. Use Erase to remove letters or black squares. Once your words are placed, click Auto Number to assign clue numbers.

      

      

        

        
Select Black mode from the toolbar. You can then click individual cells or click and drag across multiple cells to quickly add black squares. The same method works on touch devices — just tap or drag.

      

      

        

        
Click Auto Number and the tool will scan the grid from top left to bottom right. It assigns a number to any cell that starts a new word (either across or down) and is not a black square. Small numbers will appear in the corner of the grid cells.

      

      

        

        
Yes! After finishing your grid, click Print. The print layout automatically hides the tool controls and shows only the grid and clue list (if you have generated it). For best results, use “Auto Number” before printing.

While the tool does not include cloud saving, you can use the Export Text feature to copy a plain-text representation of your grid. Paste it into a document to save your design. You can also print to PDF directly from your browser.
