Frequently Asked Questions
How many dice can I roll at once?
You can roll between 1 and 10 dice simultaneously. Use the + and - buttons to adjust the number of dice. Each die is a standard 6-sided die (d6) with true random outcomes.
Are the dice rolls truly random?
Yes! Each die roll uses JavaScript's crypto-grade random number generator (when available) or Math.random() with sufficient entropy. Every face has an equal 1/6 probability, and each die is independent — meaning previous rolls do not influence future outcomes.
What is the probability of rolling specific combinations?
With standard d6 dice: rolling snake eyes (two 1s) has a 1/36 probability (~2.78%). Rolling a 7 with two dice is the most common outcome at 1/6 (~16.67%). With more dice, the distribution follows a bell curve (Central Limit Theorem). Use our tool to experiment and observe the patterns!
Can I use this dice roller for board games like Monopoly or Yahtzee?
Absolutely! This tool is perfect for board games, tabletop RPGs, D&D sessions, Yahtzee, Craps practice, and any situation where you need fair dice rolls. The 3D animation adds excitement, and the history feature helps you track results. It works great on both desktop and mobile devices.
How does the 3D dice animation work?
The dice are rendered using CSS 3D transforms (transform-style: preserve-3d). Each die is a cube composed of 6 absolutely-positioned faces in 3D space. When you roll, JavaScript calculates random target rotations and applies smooth CSS transitions with realistic easing curves. The result is a visually satisfying 3D tumble effect — no WebGL or heavy libraries required!
Is my roll history saved permanently?
Roll history is stored in your browser's session memory during your visit. It keeps the last 20 rolls with detailed breakdowns. History is cleared when you refresh the page or click the trash icon. We do not track or store any data on servers — your privacy is fully respected.
Can I roll different types of dice (d4, d8, d10, d20)?
Currently, this tool supports standard 6-sided dice (d6) only. We're exploring adding polyhedral dice (d4, d8, d10, d12, d20) in future updates to better serve the D&D and tabletop RPG community. Stay tuned!
Why do some dice stop at different times?
Each die has a randomized animation duration (between 0.7 and 1.3 seconds) and independent rotation patterns. This creates a more natural, chaotic feel — just like real dice scattering across a table! The varied timing also makes the visual experience more engaging.
