Frequently Asked Questions

It uses the CIELAB color space, which is designed to be perceptually uniform, meaning that the differences between colors you see match the mathematical distances. This yields palettes that feel more balanced to the human eye compared to traditional RGB quantization.

We sample pixels from your image, convert them from sRGB to CIELAB, and then apply K‑means clustering. The cluster centers become your palette colors, ensuring that visually similar colors are grouped together in a perceptually meaningful way.

RGB distances don't match human perception; two colors that look very different might be numerically close in RGB, and vice versa. LAB minimizes this problem, producing palettes that better represent the visual importance of each color.
