Frequently Asked Questions

This tool uses Sobel edge detection algorithms to identify the outlines and edges in your uploaded image, then renders them as glowing neon lines inside a fully self-contained SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics) file. The result mimics the look of neon signs or electroluminescent wire art, with customizable glow intensity and colors.

We apply the Sobel operator — a mathematical convolution that calculates the brightness gradient at each pixel. Pixels with high gradient magnitude (sharp changes in brightness) are classified as edges. The Edge Sensitivity slider controls the threshold: lower values detect more subtle edges, while higher values keep only the strongest outlines. Before detection, a subtle Gaussian blur can be applied (via the Edge Thickness slider) to smooth noise and widen the detected edges.

The edge-detected image is embedded as a base64-encoded PNG inside the SVG, and the neon glow is achieved using native SVG filters (feGaussianBlur + feMerge). While the edge data originates from a rasterized detection pass, the glow effect itself is fully vector-based and resolution-independent. The resulting SVG file is self-contained and can be scaled without losing the glow quality. For pure vector path output, we recommend using our tool on simple, high-contrast images like logos or icons.

You can upload JPG, PNG, GIF, WebP, and even SVG files. The maximum file size is 10MB. Large images are automatically downsized to a maximum of 1200px on the longest side to ensure smooth processing. For best results, use images with clear contrast between the subject and background.

Absolutely! Choose from 8 preset neon colors (pink, cyan, green, purple, red, orange, yellow, white) or pick any custom color using the color picker. The Glow Intensity slider controls the size of the neon bloom — higher values create a larger, softer halo around the edges by increasing the Gaussian blur radius across multiple layered filter passes.

Yes! The SVGs you create with this tool are yours to use for any purpose — personal projects, commercial designs, logos, merchandise, websites, social media, and more. No attribution is required. However, please ensure you have the rights to the original image you upload (e.g., your own photo or properly licensed stock imagery).

Edge detection works by finding sharp brightness transitions. Detailed photographs with gradients, soft shadows, or low contrast may produce dense or sparse edge maps. Try adjusting the Edge Sensitivity slider: lower it to capture more subtle edges, or raise it to isolate only the strongest outlines. Images with clean, high-contrast subjects against plain backgrounds yield the most striking neon results.

Yes! The tool is fully responsive and mobile-friendly. You can upload images from your phone's gallery or camera, adjust all parameters with touch-friendly sliders, and download the glowing SVG directly to your device. All image processing happens locally in your browser — no data is ever sent to a server.
