Frequently Asked Questions

This tool reads your PDF file directly in your browser using JavaScript. It parses the PDF's internal structure—specifically the Pages dictionary which contains a /Count field indicating the total number of pages. No file data ever leaves your device, ensuring complete privacy. For PDFs with object streams or complex structures, multiple parsing strategies are employed to ensure accuracy.

No. All processing happens entirely within your browser using client-side JavaScript. Your files are never uploaded, transmitted, or stored on any external server. This makes the tool ideal for sensitive or confidential documents. You can even disconnect your internet after loading the page and the tool will continue to work offline.

The tool can detect that a PDF is encrypted and will attempt to read the page count from the unencrypted metadata. In most standard-encrypted PDFs, structural metadata like the page count remains readable. If the page count can be extracted, it will be displayed with an Encrypted label. However, if the metadata is also fully encrypted, the tool will indicate that the page count could not be determined.

The tool supports all major PDF versions including PDF 1.0 through PDF 2.0, as well as linearized (web-optimized) PDFs, PDF/A archival formats, and most PDF/X print-ready formats. The PDF version is detected from the file header and displayed alongside each file for your reference.

In rare cases, page count detection may be affected by: PDF Portfolios (which bundle multiple documents—the count may reflect sub-files rather than pages), heavily corrupted files, or non-standard PDF structures generated by某些 software. The tool uses multiple fallback methods to maximize accuracy, but if you encounter discrepancies, verifying with Adobe Acrobat or another PDF reader is recommended.

The tool accepts PDF files up to 100MB per file. For very large files, processing may take a few seconds as the entire file is read into browser memory for analysis. There is no limit on the number of files you can process—batch count dozens of PDFs at once and get instant totals.

  • PDF stands for Portable Document Format, created by Adobe in 1993 to ensure documents look the same everywhere.
  • A single PDF file can contain up to approximately 10 million pages in theory, though most readers struggle beyond a few hundred thousand.
