Frequently Asked Questions

Each player is assigned a unique keyboard key. When the host asks a question, players press their assigned key to "buzz in." The system locks instantly on the first detected keypress, displaying the winner with dramatic visual and audio feedback. On mobile devices, players can tap their on-screen buttons. The tool supports 2–6 players and is perfect for classroom quizzes, game nights, and Family Feud-style competitions.
Default key assignments are spread across the keyboard to minimize ghosting (keyboard matrix conflicts):
Player 1: Q   Player 2: P   Player 3: A   Player 4: L   Player 5: Z   Player 6: M
These keys are on opposite sides of the keyboard, allowing 2–6 people to gather around comfortably. Keys are displayed on each player's card.
Inspired by Family Feud's "Face Off" round, Random Delay adds a 1–3 second unpredictable pause after the host clicks ARM. This prevents players from anticipating the exact moment and rewards genuine reaction speed. The stage display will show a countdown or "WAIT..." indicator before switching to "READY!" A distinct audio cue plays when the system goes live.
Yes! On touchscreen devices, each player card becomes a large tap target. Multiple players can tap simultaneously, and the system detects the first touch event with millisecond precision. For best results on mobile, use a tablet placed flat on a table so 2–4 players can reach their buttons. The touch interface uses touchstart events for minimal latency.
After a player buzzes in, the host clicks CORRECT ✓ to award 1 point, or WRONG ✗ to mark the answer incorrect. If wrong, that player is eliminated for the round, and the remaining players can buzz in again — this is the "steal" opportunity. The system tracks total scores, number of buzzes, and consecutive correct streaks for each player.
Keyboard ghosting occurs when certain key combinations are pressed simultaneously on a membrane keyboard, causing some presses to go undetected. Our default key mapping (Q, P, A, L, Z, M) places keys on separate rows and columns of the keyboard matrix, drastically reducing ghosting. For competitive play, a mechanical keyboard with N-key rollover (NKRO) is recommended. In practice, the microsecond differences in human reaction times make true simultaneous presses extremely rare.
This tool is ideal for:
Classroom quizzes — engage students with competitive trivia
Family Feud game nights — authentic TV-style buzzer experience
Pub trivia / bar quizzes — determine who answered first
Team-building events — fun corporate icebreaker activities
Youth group games — energetic, screen-based competition
Online stream interactions — let viewers compete via shared screen
Yes! The tool uses the Web Audio API to generate realistic buzzer sounds — no audio files needed. A high-pitched "ding" plays on successful buzz, and a low "buzz" tone plays on wrong answers. Sound can be toggled on/off or have its volume adjusted via the settings bar. Note: iOS Safari requires at least one user interaction before audio can play.
