Frequently Asked Questions

This tool processes everything locally in your browser using HTML5 Canvas and Web Workers. The video frames are extracted at your specified FPS, then encoded into an animated GIF using the gif.js library. No data is ever uploaded to any server — your privacy is fully protected.

Support depends on your browser. Most modern browsers (Chrome, Edge, Firefox) support MP4 (H.264), WebM, and MOV. Safari has native support for MP4 and MOV. For best compatibility, we recommend using MP4 files. AVI support varies — Chrome usually handles it well.

Absolutely not. This is a fully client-side tool. Your video stays on your device at all times. The conversion happens entirely within your browser's memory. There's no server-side processing, no file transfer, and no storage. You can even disconnect from the internet after loading the page — the tool will work offline.

10-15 FPS is the sweet spot for most GIFs — it balances smoothness and file size. For cinematic clips, 15-20 FPS works well. For memes and simple animations, 5-8 FPS is often sufficient and keeps the file very small. Higher FPS (24-30) creates smoother motion but dramatically increases file size and may cause playback issues on some platforms.

Several ways to get smaller GIFs: (1) Lower the FPS to 5-10; (2) Reduce the output width (320px or less); (3) Keep clips short — under 5 seconds is ideal; (4) Use the quality slider to trade some color accuracy for smaller size; (5) Crop to essential content only. A 3-second GIF at 10 FPS with 480px width typically results in a 1-3 MB file.

GIFs are limited to 256 colors per frame (8-bit), while videos typically use millions of colors. This color reduction naturally causes some quality loss, especially in gradients and subtle color transitions. To maximize quality: use the "High" quality setting, keep the original resolution, and ensure good lighting in your source video. For photographic content, consider using short MP4 clips instead of GIFs.

We recommend keeping clips between 2 and 10 seconds. Shorter clips (2-5s) produce smaller, more shareable GIFs. Clips longer than 15 seconds may result in very large files (20MB+) and slow conversion. If you need longer animations, consider reducing the FPS and output width significantly.

This tool works with local video files only. To convert YouTube videos, you would first need to download the video clip to your device using a separate downloader tool, then upload it here. We don't support direct URL-to-GIF conversion to respect copyright and terms of service of online platforms.

Our edge: Fully private, instant, no file size cap, no watermarks, no accounts — just fast local conversion.

Yes! The tool is fully responsive and works on iOS and Android browsers. However, GIF conversion is CPU-intensive. On mobile devices, we recommend: keeping clips under 5 seconds, using 5-10 FPS, and selecting 320px width for faster processing. Some older phones may struggle with very large videos — if conversion stalls, try a shorter clip.
