Frequently Asked Questions

A Word Scramble Solver (also called an anagram solver or word unscrambler) is a tool that takes a set of scrambled letters and finds all valid English words that can be formed using those letters. It's commonly used for word games like Scrabble, Words With Friends, Boggle, and crossword puzzles. Our solver checks thousands of dictionary words in milliseconds to give you instant results.
Our tool works by comparing your input letters against a comprehensive dictionary of English words. For each word in the dictionary, it checks whether the word can be formed using only the letters you entered, respecting letter frequency. You can apply additional filters like minimum/maximum word length, starting letter, or ending letter to narrow down results. The algorithm is optimized to process thousands of words instantly in your browser.
Practice regularly – Use our Game mode to challenge yourself daily. Look for common patterns like prefixes (un-, re-, pre-) and suffixes (-ing, -ed, -tion). Start with smaller words – Find 2-3 letter words first, then build up. Identify vowels – Every word needs at least one vowel, so locate them first. Try consonant clusters like "th", "sh", "ch", "st", "tr" which frequently appear together. The more you play, the faster your brain recognizes word patterns.
Currently, our tool works with exact letter inputs. For wildcard support (common in Scrabble where blank tiles represent any letter), you can try running multiple searches with different letters in place of the blank. We're working on adding native wildcard support using "?" or "*" characters in a future update. In the meantime, our advanced filters (starts with, ends with) can help narrow down possibilities.
It depends on the letters! A set of 6 common letters like "A,E,R,S,T,N" can form hundreds of words (stare, rents, tears, ant, nest, etc.). In contrast, letters like "X,Z,Q,J" produce fewer results. Generally, letter sets rich in vowels (A, E, I, O, U) and common consonants (R, S, T, N, L) yield the most words. Our dictionary contains thousands of entries, so you'll often be surprised by how many words are hiding in your scrambled letters.
They're very similar but have a subtle difference. An anagram solver typically finds words that use all the given letters exactly once (e.g., "listen" → "silent"). A word scramble solver finds all possible words that can be made using any subset of the given letters (e.g., from "LISTEN" you can also get "list", "ten", "sit", "net", etc.). Our tool functions as both — it shows you all words including full anagrams.
Yes! Our Word Scramble Solver and Game is completely free to use with no registration required. There are no limits on the number of searches you can perform. The entire tool runs in your browser — we don't store any of your searches or personal data. Enjoy unlimited word unscrambling!
