Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, 100%. All your journal entries are stored exclusively in your browser's localStorage. No data is ever transmitted to any server, no account is required, and no third party can access your writings. Your journal lives entirely on your device. This also means the tool is inherently GDPR-compliant since no personal data is collected or processed externally.

Clearing your browser's localStorage will permanently delete your journal entries. We strongly recommend regularly exporting your entries using the Export button. You can export as JSON (for backup/restore) or as a formatted TXT file. Store the exported file in a safe location like cloud storage or an external drive.

Click the Export button to download all entries as a JSON file (ideal for backup) or a TXT file (human-readable). To restore, click Import and select a previously exported JSON file. The import will merge entries, preserving existing ones and adding any that were previously backed up.

Absolutely! Since the journal runs entirely in your browser and saves data locally, it works perfectly offline. Once the page is loaded, no internet connection is needed. You can write entries anytime, anywhere — on a plane, in a remote area, or whenever you're disconnected.

Since entries are stored locally in your browser, they do not automatically sync across devices. However, you can manually export from one device and import on another. For seamless multi-device access, consider saving your exported JSON file in a cloud-synced folder and importing it when switching devices.

This private journal offers: auto-save while you type, a mood tracker with 7 emotions, a mini calendar to navigate dates, favorites to bookmark special entries, full-text search, word & character counts, dark mode for nighttime writing, export/import in JSON and TXT formats, and a clean distraction-free writing interface.

localStorage typically provides 5–10 MB of storage per domain, which is enough for thousands of journal entries (roughly 1–2 million words). For most users, this is effectively unlimited. If you write extensively, regular exports are recommended as a backup practice regardless of storage limits.
