Date Calculator

Our calculator fully accounts for leap years. When adding or subtracting years that cross February 29th, the tool automatically adjusts—for example, adding 1 year to February 29, 2024 correctly yields February 28, 2025 (since 2025 is not a leap year). All date difference calculations also include the extra day in leap years.

The tool uses "end-of-month" logic. Adding 1 month to January 31 yields February 28 (or February 29 in a leap year), since February does not have 31 days. Similarly, adding 1 month to March 31 gives April 30. This ensures results are always valid calendar dates and aligns with how most businesses and legal documents handle month arithmetic.

Business days exclude Saturdays and Sundays. When you select "Business Days," the calculator counts only Monday through Friday, skipping weekends. For example, adding 5 business days to a Friday lands on the following Friday (skipping the Saturday and Sunday in between). Note that public holidays are not excluded—only weekends are skipped by default.

By default, the Date Difference mode calculates the number of days between two dates (exclusive of the start date). If you need an inclusive count (including both the start and end dates), simply add 1 to the total days result. For example, January 1 to January 10 is 9 days apart, but inclusive counting gives 10 days.

Months have varying lengths (28–31 days), so adding a month isn't as straightforward as adding 30 days. Our calculator preserves the day-of-month where possible. If the target month doesn't have that day (e.g., adding 1 month to May 31), it rolls back to the last valid day of that month (June 30). This is the standard approach used in financial and legal date calculations.

For deadline calculations, use the Add/Subtract mode with the "Business Days" option to skip weekends. This is especially useful for: legal filing deadlines (often "30 calendar days"), business response periods ("10 business days"), project milestones, warranty periods, and notice requirements. Always verify whether your deadline uses calendar days or business days per the relevant agreement or regulation.

Yes, the calculator uses JavaScript's built-in Date object, which handles dates from the year 1 AD forward with high accuracy. It correctly accounts for the Gregorian calendar reform (the skipped days in 1582 for some regions, or 1752 for others) based on your browser's locale. For most practical purposes—planning, scheduling, age calculations—the results are fully reliable.
